[Politico EU] The U.S. Receives Cold-Shoulder from Neighbors

In the moderated NATO caucus on Friday morning, the U.S. asked NATO allies for help in protecting the Arctic from Russian-Chinese movements.
Promptly after, Canada reminds the U.S. that they are choosing to be there, calling their involvement in global affairs “self-inflicted” and “stretching themselves too thin.” Canada reminds fellow delegates of the U.S.’s risk to the Arctic, per previous statements and declarations, including threats to “own” Greenland, and labeling the island a "poorly run piece of ice.”
Is this retaliation for President Trump’s interest in making Canada the 51st state?
In response, the U.S. shared a statement on X from President Donald Trump:
Will Europe continue to trust the United States or will it believe their dishonest leader? Trusting the United States and trusting its current leader are different positions, what is certain is that Europe can no longer meddle between the two.
One is a strategic imperative built over 80 years; the other, simply a gamble.
