[Politico EU] Should EU Member States Have Individual GenAI Regulations or Be United Under One?

Before convening for lunch, the Romanian MEP from Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) and the Polish representative from  European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) went head-to-head in their committee meeting to establish who is in control of artificial intelligence regulations. The primary concern at the time of discussing their amendments to Articles 2, 6, and 12.

Both members represent opposing sides of the political spectrum, a likely cause of the consistent dialogue between the parties. ECR stood their ground in no longer wanting their “cowboy-yeehaw-left wing” counterparts to continue to push their propaganda. The ECR said they can’t see how to protect democratic resilience with a “one size fits all” approach, as countries all have their own individuality and challenges.

The question is now: will they find a middle ground before the day ends? And will the committee be able to choose whether administrative bodies should have control over AI regulations?
