Within the first morning of negotiations, the delegation of Kuwait accused the Netherlands of exporting arms to Saudi Arabia despite its plea for collective humanitarian aid during the Yemen crisis. This accusation was made during a session at the United Nations Human Rights Council.
In response, the Dutch delegation dismissed this as an instance of ‘finger-pointing’, and alleged that Kuwait itself supported the Saudi-led coalition. The Netherlands affirmed that they have taken severe initiative to relieve the crisis in Yemen, arguing they have contributed millions of euros to support humanitarian efforts.
Amongst embargo discussions, France also acknowledged its past arms exports to the region and called for shared accountability within the council. Further instigating discussions on responsibility.
This exchange took place amid broader discussions on addressing the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. A consensus emerged among council members that collective action is needed to fund relief efforts and mitigate the crisis.
