Sunday Summary - 22nd of February 2026

Today, we’re closing a quite eventful week for the global community. The past seven days have been filled with positive events that brought people together. So what were the highlights of the past week?

India AI Impact Summit

This past week held an event that connected the international tech community by gathering them under one roof. From the 16th to the 20th of February, the AI Impact Summit took place in New Delhi, India. This event marked the first global AI summit hosted by a Global South nation. Heads of nations, economic leaders, global policy makers, UN officials, AI startups, and researchers came together to discuss AI governance, innovation policy, and international cooperation on AI affairs. Over the five days, the discussions covered an interdisciplinary range of topics, looking into how AI impacts sectors of human health, environment, energy, agriculture, education, and even gender empowerment and disability. Hopefully, these discussions will find results in real life and policy-making, which will guide AI development and implementation towards a better and harm-free future.

Carnival in the Netherlands

Alaaf! For those living in the Limburg region of the Netherlands, the week started with an extended weekend and grand celebrations that concluded the Carnival. People gathered on the streets, dressed in costumes, ready to celebrate with friends, family, and those around them. More locally, Maastricht was filled with traditional Limburg Carnival colours: red, yellow, and green. Limburgers proudly wore these as they went out to participate in parties and parades. All celebrations were wrapped on Tuesday as the population prepared for Ash Wednesday and the fasting time leading to Easter. But there were more reasons to celebrate and bring communities together.

World Thinking Day

This Sunday, we also celebrated World Thinking Day. It is a day that brings together members of the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from more than 150 countries. These young girls celebrate unity, friendship, and empowerment among girls and young women by acknowledging and discussing the challenges and hardships that others face around the world. This encourages people to reflect on the global issues and inequality, think of how to bring in positive change, and promotes cultural diversity and international solidarity.

Closing of the 2026 Olympics in Italy

To conclude the week, on the 22nd of February, the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will reach their Grand Finale. The Closing Ceremony will be held at the Verona Olympic Arena a historic amphitheatre embodying Italy’s rich cultural heritage. Viewers of this event can expect to be immersed in a world of art, music, and “pure spirit of sport”, as described by the organisers. The Ceremony will honour the participants and their achievements and celebrate the international athletic community.
