[Reuters] UNODC - United States attempts to broker information deal with Russia

The delegate of the United States in UNODC is pursuing closer cooperation with the Russian Federation. The aim of the cooperation would be the sharing of weapons and drug trafficking information amongst the two nations in order to better combat said issues. 

In documents obtained by our journalist, the United States is clearly seeking reconciliation with Russia, stating it wants to ‘rebuild trust’ between the two nations. What the U.S. exactly implies with this is unclear, as the delegate was not available for comment. Russia has for now rejected the offer, quoted as saying “the United States is not a reliable partner”. 

This approach by the US towards Russia fits in the larger US trend of increasing cooperation in the UN, exemplified by the UN vote on Ukraine on February 25th 2025.
