[Reuters] Chaos in European talks on energy supply on Friday afternoon

In an effort to ensure energy supply and low prices, European representatives discussed on Friday afternoon the possibility of importing energy from countries situated in North Africa. Italy and Latvia showed willingness to trade with North African states on the condition that human rights are protected. Some countries argued that the Union should focus on Europeans’ needs first. As the time runned out for Romania’s speech and the President of the Council called for silence as she banged her gavel, Romania insisted: “However, I’m going to speak.” Chaos ensued as the noise level rose dramatically and Latvia shouted for Romania to respect the President.
