We understand that in the world of high stakes negotiations between countries, narratives shape reality. Depending on the framing of a situation, reputations can be broken or made.
One of our New York Times journalists found themselves in a situation where the narrative was trying to be painted before the press had a chance to do it themselves.
A certain delegate of an EU country, who for the sake of privacy will be anonymous, attempted to bribe a journalist under the guise of a ‘donation.’ The delegate was hesitant to disclose information to the press unless a more conservative narrative was adopted- an outright attempt to manipulate a member of the press to ensure that what was written would reflect their version of the story.
This delegate mentioned that they did not care whether or not they were in the EU and that the people of their country will stand with them no matter what, a clear sign of their unwillingness to collaborate on all sides.
Clearly frustrated with the progress being made with their fellow delegates in the committee, the representative took a bold, and perhaps reckless risk
