The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about – Oscar Wilde.
Hello! Welcome to our fourth issue of Loosely Talking, where we reflect on our lives between the cobblestones.
On March 29, the clocks will leap forward one hour, marking the start of daylight savings aka the best time of the year! As we welcome the season of longer daylight, warmer weather, and more time in the park with friends, we can’t help but feel how sudden this has all come on. It feels like only yesterday we were seeing night skies at around 16:00 o’clock and freezing at all hours.
Just as the abrupt and fast nature of the time changes, so too is university. One moment you're sitting in your very first tutorial in your faculty, the next you're on your semester abroad, and before you know it, you're on the graduation stage – diploma in hand.
We both feel that when you become so enveloped in the schoolwork and projects, it’s easy to fall into a pattern, wanting to treasure the peace and quiet. Stay in to rest up for a long day of studying. We’ve fallen into these kinds of cycles.
Your uni years have a way of flying by, wholly changing you in the process. And often it feels hard to slow down and enjoy things as they unravel. Between the overwhelming cycle of exams, weekly readings, working and friendships, we forget how much time has passed. We forget to slow down and appreciate the time we have in our Maastricht worlds’ for what they are.
The changing of time is a reminder to savor the memories as they come. Live in the moment, while being conscious of what’s to come. Enjoy the days of lounging on Markt with friends whilst you all sip on a nice glass of wine or beer. Enjoy walks to St. Petersburg and night outs alike. Before you know it your life will outgrow these Maastricht streets. The times will drastically change into a new life with new memories.
Until next week,
Celia and Ella
