In a press conference held in the European council Lithuanian Prime Minister, Gintautas Paluckas, singled out China in a heated response. After being questioned by CGTN in regards to their supposed meddling in Chinese internal affairs, the PM expressed their concerns with China as an unreliable trade partner labeling the republic “crazy and unhinged.” The PM further proposed and advocated for seeking out trade partnerships with South America or ASEAN.
Greece PM Mitsotakis strongly condemned the word choice of Paluckas, going so far to say that Lithuania should offer an official apology to the People’s Republic of China, especially after having received an address from President Xi Jinping.
Victor Orban suggested that the rash remarks would be grounds for removing Lithuania from the European Union. Not elaborating further.
Commission president Ursula von der Leyden did not want to comment on this development.
