[Associated Press] ICC - Ex-president Aliyev found guilty of war crime, crime against humanity and genocide as ICC trial concludes

As the conference came to a close, the International Criminal Court (ICC) gave the much awaited verdict for the trial of Azerbaïdjan’s ex-president Alyiev. The charges included five counts of genocide, five counts of war crime and seven counts of crime against humanity.

Aliyev was found guilty on six charges: one war crime (extensive destruction and appropriation of property, not justified by military necessity and carried out unlawfully and wantonly), two crimes against humanity (deportation or forcible transfer of population and imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty) and three counts of genocide (killing members of the group, causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group, deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part).

Ex-president Aliyev is now expected to be transferred to prison.
