CC: The Dream of the Spiders
Today I whisper tales of arachnids and mankind,
of the forestry and of beauty,
Beginning with the misery of a spider,
who crawls below and above, seeking shelter in every possible direction.
The spider, who shrieks upon the sights of the human,
and buries himself within the earth.
Each morning is reset once more — the same life, the same deafening fear.
The drum of our footsteps echo in his mind, beating louder and louder with every passing minute.
His desire to live freely has been abolished by the horrific reality,
Horror is all he knows, for in this life—in his life—mankind trumps beauty at the expense of his fellow spiders.
I cry for you, little one.
And my heart aches as the words form at the tip of my lips,
I’m sorry, I whisper, hoping it reaches every inch of the world.
For I too have engaged in this cruel demise, crushing and snarling at the very thought of your existence.
But as the birds sing and the trees hum,
As the beetles buzz and the elephants wallow,
As you continue to crawl through life, praying for another day,
A feeling of enlightenment has sprouted from within me, taking root and spreading outwards.
What I used to know is not what I know now.
What I used to believe has rid itself dry, and I finally see the truth for what it is.
And now I will strive, to spread the dream of hope —
The dream of the spiders:
Perhaps one does not need to love in order not to kill.
Perhaps one does not need to use hate or fear as an excuse to demolish.
Perhaps you and I do not need to live side by side, for me to let you live.
Perhaps your life is worth it, after all.
—
Poems speak in riddles of words, disguised in a language unknown to some.
It speaks to those whose minds digest the words of the written.
But this, this is a message that must be digested by everyone alike.
To put it simply:
Perhaps one does not need to love others in order not to kill.
Perhaps one does not use hate or fear as an excuse to demolish the lives of others.
Perhaps you and the person next to you do not need to live side by side, for peace to sustain.
Perhaps everyone’s life is worth it, after all.
